MOVIE NIGHT: American Fiction

  • 28 Feb 2024
  • 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM

Leading up to Salon in March when we will discuss the Academy Awards show, nominees, and winners, we'll gather at a member's home for a movie night to watch American Fiction.  The movie will start promptly at 7:45pm, so arrive by 7:30pm to get settled.

AMERICAN FICTION is Cord Jefferson's hilarious directorial debut, which confronts our culture’s obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright stars as Monk, a frustrated novelist who’s fed up with the establishment profiting from “Black” entertainment that relies on tired and offensive tropes. To prove his point, Monk uses a pen name to write an outlandish “Black” book of his own, a book that propels him to the heart of hypocrisy and the madness he claims to disdain.  Starring Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, and Sterling K. Brown. From Writer/Director Cord Jefferson. Run time 1:57.

Please bring an appetizer, dessert, or wine to share.
