Book Group Newton Women's Forum has an active book club that meets monthly in members' homes for appetizers, dessert and wine provided by attendees. Reading selections are voted on by members and discussions are lively! Annual highlights include our holiday book swap in December and book club at the beach in August. Social Events We produce a variety of social events throughout the year. We launch our membership year mid-September with a Kickoff Party where we welcome returning and past members, and friends as we catch up and hear about the upcoming season. Other social events include a Holiday Party, Progressive Dinner, Wine & Cheese Party, Comfort Food Cookoff, Oktoberfest and more, depending on the year and how holidays fall on the calendar. Salon Salon is an engaging, conversational gathering where we meet in members' homes to discuss a timely topic introduced by short articles or TED Talks. Past topics have included "Why a Sense of Humor is a Life Skill" and "How to Invest Your Energy More Wisely." Cookbook Review Our popular Cookbook Review is for foodies who love to experiment with new recipes and cooking styles and hone their cooking craft. Attendees choose a recipe from the selected Chef's blog, prepare and bring the dish to share and discuss. (Can't cook or don't want to? Bring wine!) Additional Events and Activities We are always open to our members' ideas, interests and needs. Activities could include pop-up afternoon walks, game nights, wine & whine sessions, local excursions and more. Schedules and availability of members to manage and/or host these events is key to making them happen. Community Outreach We have raised donations for The Second Step homeless shelter, Welcome Home, the Newton Free Library, Room to Grow, a nonprofit that provides baby essentials for low-income families, the Newton Centre Food Pantry and more. |
