Please join us for our signature Speaker evening, Monday, Mar. 4. Dinner, Social Time & Announcments 7-8 p.m.;  speaker 8-9 p.m. Theme: Contact! (Connection | Communication)

Speaker: Yvette Cendes is a postdoc at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and was inspired to pursue Astronomy by the Ellie Arroway character in Carl Sagan's sci-fi novel CONTACT. Her main area of research is Supernovae. She enjoys outreach and will have exciting visuals to share with us. She is also the Astronomy editor for the Guinness Book of World Records, and a new mom!

Dr. Yvette Cendes is a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian, where she specializes in transient radio astronomy, including supernovae and tidal disruption events (when a black hole rips apart a star)Yvette has written for several publications, including AstronomyDiscover and Scientific American, and is currently the astronomy consultant for Guinness World Records. Additionally, Yvette is known by many as /u/Andromeda321 on Reddit, where her "astronomer here!" comments are read by millions around the world.

Our Speaker Series is part of the NWF membership. Non-members are welcome to attend any of our Speaker Series events for a $35 guest fee paid via PayPal ahead of the event or by check at the event. If a guest decides to join during the month of the Speaker event, $35 will be deducted from the $165 annual dues.
